Hey, there’s no need to be rude. That said, here’s a little thing you can do if you are on an anthropological expedition to scope out a few religious/supernaturalist events…

Go to a church service and just look around. You’ll notice that while it’s happening 5-10% of the people there will be looking around as well. Why? They aren’t even faking it. They know it’s BS, but are either there watching humans or were dragged there or are there for appearances … so as to not irk someone else.

I’ve been nice a few times when visiting relatives and have accepted an invite to church. There are plenty of atheists there.

Wow. This website makes me want to go into every church in town, and just start terrorizing people w/ the thruth… Like, during “praise and worship” and everybody is just standing there, clapping, just start yelling, “What?! c’mon people! HE DIED FOR YOU! and this is the only thanks he gets?!” What are you so affraid of? that people will laugh and talk about you after service?” oh, wait lemme guess, “People worship in different ways!” I’ve seen people more excited over a football game,and dance more than you all at a strip club! and this is your lord? your savior? This is how you “Worship him” stand there and clap? Where’s your proof? where’s your conviction? If someone could prove that HELL didn’t exsist, would you still be here? Why has god never done a miracle in front of you? instantly?! B/C he’s IMAGINARY you fuckin DRONES, wake up! quit bullshittin yourself, He’s not real… It’s okay! you’ll be alright!
I wonder if they would “Detain me?” would they call the cops? and if so, would that not be proof that a church is a BUISNESS, not some holy house of god? …hmmm it is saturday, think I’ll go do that tommorow, just to be a gangster…

I’ll let ya know how it goes…(If I can get the balls to actually do it)

Nothing inherently wrong with believing the end gets closer with every passing day – in fact it makes perfect sense. Thereâ€™s also nothing wrong with hoping something good occurs sooner rather than later. Pretty harmless stuff really except if these beliefs are rooted in some kooky Y2K numerology a-la the Da Vinci Code. That would be a problem.

As to Y2K, I admit to holding my breath at the stroke of midnight on the morning of Jan 1st hoping there weren’t planes dropping out of the sky somewhere.

Well, I checked and my memory was wrong. It’s 20-25% for the year depending on the source, usually higher for the lifetime of the people polled. Pew (usually reliable) puts it at 20% but asks about ‘in the lifetime’ of those polled not the coming year (at the time of the poll).

Iâ€™m fairly confident in saying that itâ€™s not likely that 1/3 to 2/3 or more atheists agree with something as outlandish as the Christians in the USA believe; that the world will end in about a year when Jesus Christ comes back. This is news to me. Maybe it's because I didn't send 2 boxtops fo the official Da Vinci Code decoder ring. World ends in one year, huh? Gosh, I hope it will happen before tax season. Corrections or examples to the contrary if you have themâ€¦ How about support for your statement above?

I’m sure that there are some nutty new-age and unskeptical atheists out there. I’ve talked to a few that tinkered with conspiracy theories but even they weren’t completely suckered in.

When supernatural entities are not thought to be credible, though, it’s more usual that the person who made that judgement is skeptical about other supernatural or unusual claims.

I’m fairly confident in saying that it’s not likely that 1/3 to 2/3 or more atheists agree with something as outlandish as the Christians in the USA believe; that the world will end in about a year when Jesus Christ comes back.

Corrections or examples to the contrary if you have them…

Given Johnson’s previous posts and the MO of this entire website, it’s pretty clear what Johnson is trying to do with this video. Wonder if he’ll put up a video of a kooky atheist speaking all kinds of nonsense. Don’t hold your breath.
