Well actually, I would respectfully disagree on that. I consider baptism to be your declaration to everyone else that yes, you are a Christian. But Biblically, you don’t need to be baptized to get into heaven. You just need to believe.

First of all, thank you for being respectful, I appreciate it a lot :)
Well one, I BELIEVE my version is correct, I’m not at all certain on the matter and two, I believe that Mormons are incorrect for the exact reason you stated. This is not out of spite or disrespect. I have open-mindedly talked about Mormonism with Mormons. But I definitely do not worship beings from some other planet, I can sincerely say I do not practice handshakes to get into heaven, and I do not indulge in the practice of baptizing a proxy to get someone else into heaven. Baptizing doesn’t save anyway. As of my position being more biblical…? Well, I suppose you could put it that way…Mormons are not incorrect because I’m more Biblical, they’re incorrect because well…from the Biblical standpoint, they’re incorrect. :)

And as to applying that argument, well it depends on if that religion includes the Bible. Mormons have the Bible, Muslims do not. Do you see? I’m not quite sure how well I stated that.

You are correct, I have not given you any reason at all to believe that the Bible is true. My point here was just to say that Mormons do not from most Christian’s perspective, correctly interpret the Bible.

As to if I take the Bible literally or not, that does TO A POINT stand to interpretation. Yes, I believe there was a great flood and if you were to point me out to talking animals, and I looked at in context, and it looked like it was meant to be taken literally, then yes, I would take it literally. That being said, there are cases in which the Bible is obviously not meant to be taken literally. For example, faith is not literally a mustard seed.

And generally, I tell the difference because the Bible will often tell me, or the headings will do so. Common sense is required. :)

As to the age of the universe, well most Christians who have studied their theology would say the universe is only thousands of years old and I would tend to side with those. On the other hand, engaging me on a debate on how old the universe actually is, is pointless as I have not studied my theology enough to definitively prove either way. :)

Two, I said earlier in this comment how I would take something literally so you can reference that :)
Three, I don’t have a degree in theology.I never said I did.
Four, I don’t pick and choose, if you mean that I believe parts of the Bible and not others. Maybe I’m misunderstanding you?
Five, if I were to stone anyone, I highly doubt they would be able to kick anything. Not to mention that the practice of stoning is highly outdated. Nevertheless, I understand your point. I’m not sure if you read the entire passage on not stoning adulterers, but if you haven’t or maybe you misunderstand it, I would be happy to explain to you. Gay marriage is a touchy point. Yes, I agree that homosexuality is wrong. But I’m not about to be Westboro church or anything. Westboro is well….avoided in most Christian environments. We’re not proud of them by any means. Neither do I hate gay/lesbian people. I’m not going to treat them any differently than anyone else.

Six, I’m not sure I quite understand your point. I don’t think what Mormons believe is completely untrue, but I don’t think they’re entirely right either. I am not attacking Mormons, I’m just stating a point. And I’ve never heard a Mormon speak of Christians in at all a spiteful way. Quite the opposite is true.

So, in a nutshell your version is correct because of what you believe from the bible and the Mormons are incorrect because you disagree with their interpretation? Your position being one of being “more biblical”? I’m trying to be fair to your position so if it’s misstated, please correct me.

However, different denominations have different books and interpretations so, yes, I get the point about what you are saying about the Book of Mormon but you could apply that argument to the Quran or any religion you choose. Correct?

Does not your argument hold for any religion against any other religion? Nothing you’ve stated shows any reason why we should take your word vs anyone else. Or did I miss some defining point?

You state that the bible is 100% true. Would that be literally true? True as in a talking snake and a donkey, great flood, and so on. Or is it some other version of “true” which is somehow open to interpretation?

If the answer involves metaphor or parable, how do you know which is which?

Also, to save someone else the time, how old would you say the earth and universe are?

Well let’s put it this way, Biblically, what the Mormons say is untrue. They have their own extra book that they tag on. And honestly, I can’t say that my particular version of Christianity is completely correct. It would be extremely presumptuous to claim that I am entirely correct on my beliefs and every other denomination is not. I am 99.9% certain that somewhere, I believe something about God that is unbiblical. On the other hand, I am 100% certain that I got the most important part correct and something that nearly every branch of Christianity shares. Jesus was God in human form who came to save all from their sins for those who believe. This is actually where Mormons fall short if I am correct. They believe that they need to do all this other works-based stuff to get into heaven, which is unbiblical.

As for which denomination I speak for, I am non-denominational. I do not stand for anyone, except for the Bible which I believe to be 100% true.

Please explain to us how you can know that your conception of Christianity, including the nature of god and Jesus, is correct and that the Mormons are not? After all, there are 41000+ different Christian denominations all vying for that title.

Also, please do clarify which version of Christianity that you are speaking for. This would be most interesting indeed.

Mormons have some really odd and not entirely Biblical beliefs, and many Christians consider them to be a cult. Do not consider this video, however questionable of its authenticity, as Christian insanity.
