Hi, Mike!

While I don't want to come off as confrontational here, I find that I must take issue with your statement,

"Unfortunately, it seems that the more one reads a bible, the less one can spell and write coherently."

It seems that a study published a couple of years ago which was funded by the John Templeton Foundation revealed that English professors at such Ivy League institutions as Yale, Harvard, Princeton and Stanford were in agreement with the statement that "an educated person needs to know the Bible". One professor went so far as to say that the Bible is "the most influential text in all of Western culture.”

Dr. Ulrich Knoefplmacher, Professor of Ancient and Modern Literature, Princeton University, said, “Not to have a knowledge of the Bible is almost crippling in students’ ability to be sophisticated readers.” (reprinted from bibleliteracy.org)

Something tells me that "carlie" is not a Christian at all, but a non-believer with an ax (axe?) to grind. Just a hunch.

God bless,
KingsKid

You know... I hate flame wars as much as the next person, but I feel I must drop this comment.

Carlie, you are not doing your side any favors.

Next time you post, save yourself some embarrassment by running your response through a spell checker, and then try some capitalisation and even some punctuation. Unfortunately, it seems that the more one reads a bible, the less one can spell and write coherently.

Oh, and a note on 'stupid logical research'. Perhaps the irony is totally lost on you, but you wrote this mess on a computer, connected to an 'internet', powered by a power station of some sort. Perhaps you should join the Amish, they also think they can reject this 'stupid' research stuff.

Enjoy your delusion, and take a third grade grammar class.

Regards,
Mike

"The answer is that He made us free, as He is free. He shows us Love as the best way to guide our lives, but we’re free to choose to do good or harm, to love or to hurt…" (with corrected typos)
What you're saying has a contradiction with itself. I will start of by explaining the traditional "God Model". A quick, in-a-nutshell way of explaining the concept of God. Here it is-
God is...
1) Omnipotent,
2) Omniknowing,
3) Omniloving &
4) Omnipresent.
We'll mostly be dealing with the first three.
There are only several possibilities of why God would set us free-
1) If number 2 is true than God must've known that by setting us free we would hurt ourselves, therefore making number 3 untrue.
2) If number 3 is true than God must've not known that we would hurt ourselves making number 2 untrue.
3) If number 2 were untrue as (statement 2 stated) than number 3 would also have to be untrue because God hasn’t taken away our free will as a result of our hurting ourselves.
4) Another possibility though, is that he hasn’t taken away free will because he is powerless to, therefore, canceling number 1.
So as you can see there are only two choices-
1)God doesn’t exist.
2) He isn't all he's cracked up to be.
Choose your poison.
"humankind is making progress in terms of respect and tolerance" (with corrected typos)
Haven't you ever heard the phrase "Chivalry is dead"?

Hello, good morning (here is 10:30)
Are you talking about Darwin's theory of humankind evolution?
As a rational person I think that you agree that anyone can present a different scientific theory. I'm not an expert on anthropology or biology… and until now my rationality tells me that Darwin is wrong. It also tells me that God never took a piece of sand to make the first human couple and there everything started… the text contained in the Bible doesn't want to describe to us the geology, neither History. Here in west we've received the greek culture, not the semite one where those books were written. Most of the sense and objectives people had on writting it, we can't get without knowing well jewish culture in that time (3000 years ago).
Any way I'll tell you a true story: once a friend of mine made that question to a priest: "If science is prooving evolution theory how can we talk about creation?". And he answered that those theories could be discussed by experts, but the Bible is not within that discution. It could have appened that in the evolution process in a certain moment that animal that was becoming different obtained inteligence, rationality, love capacity… someone as to be on the origin of all that and other animals still don't have it.
The Holy Book, as we call it, doesn't want to present scientific theories. The only thing it means is that for us, who believe, whatever as it appened on the beggining or is still appening God is there giving us His own life, His own love. Now you'll ask if God is present why are there so many bad things in the world and in history? The answer is that He made us free, as He is free. He shows us Love as the best way to guide our lifes, but we're free to choose to do good or harm, to love or to hurt… we make the World and History good or bad according to our decisions witch God respects absolutely. But we're improving… just take a look to History: the Humankind is making progress in terms of respect and tolerance, and we can allways do some more.
You also do what you think is the best, you believe on that: on a freer man. That is also one of God's dreams! Perhaps you still think you do not believe Him, but one thing is certain: He believes you, He has hope on you, He loves you!
Have a nice day, ciao

Dear brother, forgive me to call you so but I'm so amazed with everything you wrote that I feel quite close to you.
There are so many things that I'd like to tell you… but time and space seem not to be enough!
I'll first introduce myself. I'm far away from you, I think. I'm European citizen, from a small coutry named Portugal. Do you know it? I'm an young girl caled Aida (it's pronounced as the english name "Ida"). In this christian country since more than one thousand years, I received a christian education and, naturally, I'm a believer. And my beliefs are not uncertain, or unpersonal: I believe in one God who is Jesus' father revelead in the texts of the Bible.
Appearently I totaly desagree with you, right? Please, don't think that I'm writting this to hurt you or trying to convert you. I just want to tell you that I'm amazed with many things on you: You do not believe, but you talk about God (of course you do that because you want to help other people to get released of some kind of chains, and that is great!) On reading this post, I simply started to cry before your wish of freedom, for you and for others, expressed in so many ways.
Don't get bored with this, but only God could be in you such a source of love. He is there so quiet and so present… loving and releasing you from fears and false god's. That is what you do not believe: a false god that doesn't give you freedom enough. In such a God I do not believe either, even that many christians do.
I could write many other things, long explanations about the Bible (the book where revelation is contained), but it's not important. God is in your heart reveling imself with other names (freedom, peace, tolerance…), in all your beeing when you say: "Atheists are not evil, devil-worshipping pedophile criminals (of course not!!!). For the most part, atheists are hard-working, patriotic, law-abiding citizens. We pay our taxes, love our families, and worry about the price of gas. We respect the rights of others and we try to love our neighbors".

Best Wishes
Aida
