I’m really sorry for having been a Christian in the past. Even now, it is hard for me to think for myself. :*( It is not a good, happy thing. Christianity, and other religions I presume, hurt people. They cause people to stop thinking about how they really feel and instead to think about the symbols they have been taught. The bible is the living word of God in that it controls the people who believe in it, for better, or usually for worse.

Isn’t it better to just know what you feel?

Here is an example:

I said something really hurtful to this girl. I told her that being nice wasn’t going to get her what she wanted. I meant it wasn’t going to make other people be nice to her as well. I thought it was going to lead to her being taken advantage of.

So later I apologized to her for hurting her feelings. I knew this wasn’t enough, but I felt like she deserved it and I wanted to let her know I was sorry. Then she just told me she didn’t remember things for long and she forgave me.

But I know she didn’t. That’s not how she really felt. She just said that because some symbols in a book told her she ought to.

I am going to write a paper about how hypocrisy in Christianity is actually good and leads to social development.

“Know thine enemy” is one reason, alongside strengthening our position, sheer entertainment, and the morbid urge to look upon train wrecks. Perhaps your arrogant, half hazardly derived thought would hold some water amongst theists, but atheists already know their position and have taken responsibility for all related implications.

The reason atheist no a great deal about other religions is primarily due to the fact they are searching for truth. They know atheism is not truth so they spend time researching other religions which is commendable.

On the other hand, a Christian, for instance has already found truth and has no need to seek out other religions.

That is, while feeling shame towards my species, what I respect about you; your honest “faith” and near perfect obedience to the bible( even in the face of moderate church fakers). I would like see how honestly you could critique the Westborough churches beliefs, forgoing said groups actions of course.

This would presuppose you are the authority on interpretive texts. The theistic population within true biblical Christianity is a fractional number anyways, compared to the worlds poulation. Numbers dont prove anything according to biblical Christianity, we are told there will be few. So, surveys, graphs and pie charts dont make a lick of difference to me.

Atheists on average know more about technical religion than anyone else. What some of us obviously don’t understand is the dilution behind spiritualism that locks true believers into the blind faith existence where we find, and are sometimes tempted to not, leave them. This is factual and backed by real census generated numbers; this is also reflected by the number of those claiming subordinance to any given religion; I believe if everybody read their respective canons theistic populations would plummet.

15/15 although I didn’t consider much of a test on religion. What is fluffy God? Never read about Him in the Bible. God is Love, Mercy, Grace, Just and punishes. Yes, he is all those things just as our culture has all those things. The fact some may not LIKE some of God’s attributes changes nothing. Yes, people suffer in this life. That is reality just as Jesus suffered and taught we would as well.

Atheist quite looking for a fluffy God, that is not reality. You have this Santa Claus fixation that will not come true.

Did Jesus come to fulfill the law or impose Jewish law?

That is a real relgion question.

The same as MrQ, 14/15. One of the things that surprises my theist friends is that I’ve actually read the bible, as in read it for myself.

Fortunately, my parents were of the mindset that the answer to everything was within the bible and that if I read it I’d understand. So, having read said book, cover to cover, I then understood that the bible was a complete bunch of crap and that the god of the bible was as real as all the other gods that I’d also read about.

Thinking back, I’m not sure if it was easier or harder to get to the truth behind the tooth fairy and Santa Claus but, then, there’s actual physical evidence for both of those.
