So from Creation to Jesus’s time (during which we can actually make a good guess at the population), the number of people increased from 2 to 200,000,000. So, by the time of Noah’s flood (~1,600 years after Creation if you believe the Bible), at that rate of reproduction, we should be somewhere in the 30-50 million range, not “thousands”.
