I got many kick outs from theists, here on this blog, and on many other places, telling me how poor my life is without god.
Churches are attacking me frome all sides aggressively, too, all the time.

This is only a debate, man, I am NOT trying to tutor you! No one is!

Use some arguments, if you have them, do not take things personally!

I always get a kick out of atheist telling me how oppressed my life is here on earth. Pretending there is no God only last a life time but living my life for Him is the ultimate joy.

Please, no need to tell me how this Christian, Muslims or some Crusaders a 1000 years ago harmed people. I already know they are out there. There are hypocrites in every walk of life. It doesn’t change God.

I did not say “I will”, but “I would”, and it was more figuratively than really, I admit. Maybe a little bit provocative, to tease believers, I admit too.

However, as I told already in one of my comments, people like me who do not expect ANY “post mortem” life, live more freely than people who are all the time frightened whether they did or did not somehow offended their capricious god, which expect modern humans to follow 2000 years old moral rules, and makes a mess in their heads.

I live a really nice and rich life (not talking money here!), and my only concern is not to harm PEOPLE, and not to ruin enviroment. But it is not difficult for me, because I have well developed moral rules without any god.

That is really sad. Life is so good. Why not enjoy the journey and go to heaven when God calls you? I hope you don’t bust in to friends homes before being invited.

Some do and some don’t, as with all things in this world, when talking humans.
I have a few dierect experiances about some people wich did not flee to religion when understood they were dying.
My mother, who smiled and made jokes untill the very last moment, never mentioning any god.
My father, who died in pain after operation, asked for some wine before he died, not mentioning god.

My wife’s father died on my hands when he was 82. He was “moderately religious” during his life, and all he had to say some 2-3 hours before he died was: “It seems I am done, fuck it!”
My wife’s mather died saying: do not sell the house!

I do understand faer of death, it is natural.

What I do not understand: why are religious people afraid of dying?
Aren’t they going to eternal life? Some of them to enjoy in Christ’s company, other ones to enjoy 72 virgins. If I would be convinced such things are waiting for me after I die, I would wished to die today.

No, it is because they are tired of fooling themselves. The end of their life means the game is up and it is time to get real with the Maker. I deal with people who are dieing or have a loved one dieing all the time. It is amazing the peace of those who have a real relationship with Christ vs. those who do not.

There are only different levels of consciousness by different living cretures.

Consciousness is spontanious individual responding to information from „outer world“, from the „non-I“ world, and even most primitive organisms have it.
The most primitive „sense of consciousnes” was distingushing friendly organisms from enemy organisms. Primitive organisms did not have consciousness before they learned (and started to inherit by genes), to recognize enemy organsms and to run away, or (chemically) defend themselves from enemy organisms who wanted to eat (absorb) them. The moment the first microorganism ran away recognizing by some chemical signs that his neighbor microorganism was a „hungry enemy“, consciousness was born.

I am not speaking about self consciusness! I doubt microorganisms FEEL fear.
But I do not doubt mouses feel fear, and in danger, their small brain produce individual sense of fear (“I am endangered!”), signalling their bodies what to do.

Individual feeling of fear was the first trace of self-consciousness by living creatures.

SELF-consciousness is highly developed by primates. They have well organized societies with hierarchy, and you can guess an alpha mail is pretty conscious who he is. He has his “I”!
Primates even show rudimentar signs of BEING AWARE of their „I“, as the highest level of self-consciousnes, well developed by humans. They (primates), for example, recognize their pictures in mirror NOT as another primate, but understand them as their own pictures.

Even by humans, consciousness is only an endless exchanging of information between brain, body and the „outer“, „non-I” world. Some of them are automatic, some of them created by our will.
Permanent, uncontrolled flow of thoughts, even when we do not sleep, our uncontrolled reactions to signals from our surroundings (smells, sounds, movements) and our need to concentrate when necessary to do something complicated (write a letter), to hold our uncontrolled flow of thaughts back, shows us what our consciousness really is: a flow of information!
This flow of information is enabled by electrochemical reactions in our body. When you die, chemistry stops working, no more consciousness.

No such thing as soul exists!

This will be my last post. To both of you 3D and Severin. Why do you suppose it is that a staggering 98% of people, including so called “Atheists” make their peace with God just before death??? Is it just in case?? Hmm… I have family that work in the medical field and the fact is, nearly EVERYONE whether they believed in God when they came in or not finds themselves asking forgiveness just before death.

LOL. That’s quite a scientific survey; you should call the New England Journal of Medicine to see if they will publish it.

Anyway, to answer the question, 98% is a ridiculous estimate, but I’m sure some atheists do flee to religion when near death; maybe they’re senile, like Anthony Flew, or maybe they allow fear of death to sway their logic and reason. Being an logical is hard, it requires constant examination of the world and re-shaping of your beliefs to be consistent with that which is perceived in the world. Maybe by the end of life, some people are just fed up with it and would rather believe in naked baby angels sitting on clouds. Who am I to judge? That’s their prerogative; as long as their beliefs don’t affect my life in any way, they can believe any crazy thing they want.

Selective religious practice, like what you do (i.e., believing in only the parts that make you happy) definitely has the advantage of being comforting, no question about that. The question is whether we should believe the things that comfort us the most, or whether we should believe things we can prove with reason and evidence, regardless of whether we feel good about them or not.

I stopped believing in Santa when I was 7.

Why do you suppose we pray before war? During halftime at football games?

I don’t pray, so I can’t answer. Maybe you feel guilty that your religion has started so many needless wars and gotten people killed, so you are asking forgiveness.

Why do you suppose that regardless of how many different “creatures” every ethnicity in the world prays to, that they still pray??!

Because the human mind is similar all across the world, despite small differences. That’s why groups of people thousands of miles apart, separated by oceans, come up with similar fairy tales about super powerful creatures that created, vomited, or sneezed out the universe. It’s because the human mind is prone to superstition and answer-seeking; this is a good thing. This primitive myth making is an early example of the same desire for answers that led our more recent ancestors to come up with awesome telescopes, cures for diseases and computers.
